  1. There are more motorbikes in Vietnam than cars.

There are approximately 37 million motorbikes and only 2 million cars operating in Vietnam.

  1. Vietnam is the largest exporter of cashew nuts and black pepper in the world.

Vietnam exports one-third of the global production for cashew nuts and black pepper. The country is also the second largest exporter of rice behind Thailand.

  1. Vietnam is ranked 16th worldwide in biological diversity.

Vietnam has a high level of biodiversity, it is home to approximately 16% of the world’s species.

  1. Ho Chi Minh and Nguyen (pronounced “win”) are the two most common names you see in Vietnam.

Nguyen is the most popular sir name used by approximately 40% of the population and is also the birth name of the famous Ho Chi Minh who led the fight against the French and Japanese for independence.  In 1976, the largest city of Vietnam, Saigon, was renamed Ho Chi Minh City.

  1. A majority of the men who fought in Vietnam weren’t drafted — they volunteered

More than three-quarters of the men who fought in Vietnam volunteered to join the military. 2.7 million of those in the military fought in Vietnam at this time. Only 25% of that 2.7 million were drafted and only 30% of the combat deaths in the war were draftees.
